About properties windows

All objects have a properties window, where you set or modify the parameters of the object. For most objects, you display the properties window by selecting the object and clicking on the toolbar. However, where an object definition forms part of the definition of another object, in the case of a Mapping-Rule for example, you can only display the properties window for those objects via the parent object window.

Resizing panes and windows

You can resize all panes and windows. To resize panes and windows, use the standard Windows buttons in the top-right corner to restore down and then position the cursor over the split bar or one of the window corners. When the cursor changes to a double-ended arrow, click and drag the pane or window to the required size.

Title bars

The name of the Properties window is displayed on the title bar. When you create a new object, the object name is preceded by New. The title bar displays Read only when:

Tabs

Properties windows usually comprise several tabs. When you create a new object, the initial tab displayed is the General tab. When you display the Properties window for an object that is already defined, the object definition tab is displayed. For example, for a previously defined HostGroup, the initial tab displayed is the Atlas tab.
Click one of the tabs at the top of the window to display a different tab.

The General, Description and Signature tabs are available on all windows that have tabs.

The following fields are available on the General tab of all windows:

The General tab may contain other fields, depending on the object.

Description tab

This tab consists of a text box where you can enter a free-text description of the object. This tab is not mandatory, but is strongly recommended, since it provides other users with a quick definition and explanation of the object and its functionality. The maximum number of characters you can enter on this tab is 30,000.

Signature tab

This tab displays information about the creation of the object and about the last modifications made to the object. The information on this tab is for consultation only, and is not modifiable. The Signature tab displays:
