Creating Folders

About Folders

The Integration-Services workbench comprises Folders. Folders in Composer are similar to standard Windows folders or directories. Folders provide separate, distinct workplaces for storing and defining objects. The existence of independent Folders enables users to group objects together, for example, all the objects related to a single project, or all the objects defined by one user.

Procedure

Before you define a new Folder, you must have access to the Administration workbench and user rights to perform operations on folders.

To create a new Folder:

1. In the Administration workbench select File > New > Administration > Folder.
2. If you want to create a child folder, select the parent folder in the navigation pane first.
3. Complete the General tab.
4. Name: Enter a unique, logical name for the Folder. You can enter up to 32 alphanumeric characters.
   • Label: Enter an optional free-text description for the Folder. You can enter up to 128 alphanumeric characters.
   • Folder Type: You can only create a Work Folder and this option is selected by default.
   • Parent Folder: If the new Folder is a child Folder, this field displays the name of the parent Folder. This field is non-modifiable.
   • If the Folder is itself a parent Folder, this field is empty.
   • Originating Entity: The system supplies this value.
5. The Folder dialog box also comprises the following two optional standard tabs:
   • Signature
   • Description
6. After you define the basic properties of a Folder, you can:
   • Restrict user access to Folders
   • Copy and paste objects to and from the Folder
