Messages in MMS queues dated 12-31-1969 or 1-1-1970
This article was previously published as ID#26525
Detailed Information:
MMS uses the DATE: header of a message to fill in the date field when displaying a message in any of the mail queues. This DATE: header is added by the sending mail client, and MMS has no control over this header.
If the header does not exist, or is not in proper MIME format, MMS will display the date: midnight 1/1/1970 GMT. Using an incorrect date or omitting the DATE: header is a common trick used by spammers to help draw attention to their messages.
The date of 1/1/1970 GMT is subject to your regional settings and is only accurate if you're in the GMT (Greenwich Mean time) time zone. If you are not, your appropriate time zone offset is taken into account. For example, an MMS server in California will display a time of 12/31/1969 04:00:00 PM, since Pacific Standard Time (PST) is -8 hours from GMT.
