The Windows Appliance does not allow you to join your domain

Problem

You received a brand new Windows Appliance and when you try to join your domain, Windows tells you that you do not have permission.

Solution

The appliance is shipped with a security template that restricts certain permissions. You can reset the security back to default by doing the following.

Open up a command line window and execute the following:

secedit /configure /cfg %windir%\repair\secsetup.inf /db secsetup.sdb /verbose

You may receive warnings but this is ok. Reboot the appliance and you should be able to join the domain. For information, see the log file that is generated.
