Why was I forced to install Secure Redirect
Symptom:
Installation forces you to provide a servername for the IME server even though you don't intend to use Secure Redirect. After installation, you see errors like this:
Component Name: Secure Message Response Initialization
12/05/02 10:10:39 microsec: 831000, TID 1656, ERROR: SMResponse.exe, module=APPLICATION: Failed to register with the naming service. Please check that it is configured correctly and running
Detailed Information:
On your previous EMF version, you may have had ALL services installed including Redirect, even though it wasn't used. This was optional. Also, it wasn't possible to add services with EMF 5.0. If you forgot to install Redirect you wanted later, it made more sense to install all of them and just disable the ones you didn't use.
Because Redirect was already installed, later EMF installers have to upgrade it, hence you being forced to provide a name for the IME server. Secure Response is a new feature directly tied to Secure Redirect - both are covered in the Secure Redirect admin guide, but not in the EMF Admin Guide.
Resolution:
Here are your choices - both should work fine, so you can take your pick:
1. Simply disable both the Secure Redirect and Secure Response services. If they're never started, they shouldn't give you any errors.
2. There is no facility to remove individual services, but you could uninstall ALL services (leaving the database with configuration, log, messages, etc. intact), then reinstall using the EMF installer and choose the "connect to existing database" option. When asked what services to install, you can uncheck Secure Redirect and Secure Response.
