I want to upgrade my 4.12 Responder and Repeater to 5.1 SP1. What is the recommended upgrade order?

Supported upgrades to VA 5.1:

4.12.2 with latest service pack
or 5.0 with latest service pack
--> 5.1 (runs on Windows 2012 R2, 2016 and 2019, with latest Microsoft service packs, and RHEL 7.x)

then upgrade from VA 5.1 to VA 5.1 SP1 or later as available. After upgrading from 4.12 to 5.1 you will be told that your old CRLs are not compatible with the 5.1 version of VA. In this case you will need to republish all your CRLs which can be found in the VA-backup folder.

When upgrading a combination of Validation Authority Responders and repeaters and possibly Desktop Validator systems it is recommended that you start by upgrading you VA Responders first followed by VA Repeaters and/or Desktop Validator systems.

Note, you can run a Responder on version 5.1 SP1 with a Repeater (or Desktop Validator) on version 4.12, however it is recommended that you run the same and latest version. Anything earlier than 4.12 is unsupported and not recommended.
