OCFS2 version on ST appliances
Problem
What is the OCFS2 version on ST appliances?
Resolution
BACKGROUND
Axway appliances run on customized and hardened SuSE Linux Enterprise Server (SLES) as operating system which effectively enables continuous kernel and OCFS2 filesystem support depending on the version of the SLES. As part of ST upgrade packages (mostly in major ones) Axway also includes OS service packs or patches inside to assure the underlying platform (also called appliance platform or just AP) is updated and aligned with Novell maintenance cycles.
HINT: ST upgrade that includes OS platform upgrade will be greater in file size in comparison with ST minor releases.
OCFS2 VERSION
ST version | SLES version | OCFS2 version |
4.9.2 SP2 (End Of Support) | 10.3 | 1.4.1 |
5.1 - 5.1 SP3 | 11.1 | 1.4.3 |
- fresh images with 5.1 rescue-iso* | 11.2 | 1.6.4 |
5.2 - 5.2.1 SP2 | 11.2 | 1.6.4 |
* The ST 5.1 rescue-iso - https://support.axway.com/en/downloads/download-details/id/43037 is repackaged version to add support for x800 Dell models (previously only x7xx models were supported for re-image). It includes newer Appliance Platform version (AP 6.4.0) which uses SLES 11.2 and has newer kernel and OCFS2 support.
GENERAL STEPS TO DETERMINE OCFS2 VERSION:
#uname –a
#modinfo ocfs2
#mkfs.ocfs2 –version
Please note that the kernel modules will report 1.5.0 version but the actual OCFS2 version follows the version of the tools (step #3 above). This has been confirmed by Novell who will make sure to patch the kernel modules version to reflect the proper version.
MOUNTING SAN WITH MIXED OCFS2 VERSIONS:
It is highly not recommended to mount the same SAN disk from two different systems where the OCFS2 versions differ. This is unsupported and known not to work.
