Purpose

Use the find/replace tool to locate objects quickly and, optionally, to make mass modifications to a selected set of objects.

To access the Find/Replace tab in the Entity Browser directly from the Composer toolbar, click Find/replace icon in Entity Browser on the toolbar.

Finding objects

Before you complete the search criteria on the Find tab, decide whether you want to restrict the search to a specific:

To complete the search criteria:

  1. Click the Find/Replace tab at the top of the left pane. This tab displays two tabs: a Find tab and an Advanced tab. Use the fields on these tabs to refine the search based on a set of specific criteria.
  2. Complete the fields on the Find tab, as described below.
  3. Optionally, complete the fields on the Advanced tab, as described below.

Completing the Find tab

The Find tab comprises a set of generic attributes that apply to all objects. Complete these fields as described in the following table.

Field

Description

Topography

Select the workbench where you want to perform the search. If you select Topography, the Folder options are grayed out because Topography objects are not stored in Folders. If you select Integration-Services, you must specify the Folder to search, or select All Folders to perform the search on all authorized Folders.

Integration-Services

All Folders

Check this option to search all authorized Folders.

Folder

Check this option to search the current Folder only.

The name of the current Folder is displayed in the adjacent field. You cannot directly modify this field. To find an object in a different Folder, click the Folder tab in the Entity Browser and select the Folder that you want to search.

If you do not select a Folder on the Folder tab, this field remains empty.

Look in sub-Folders

This option is only available if you selected Folder.

Check this option to apply the search to all sub-Folders of the selected Folder. If you do not check this option, Composer only searches for objects in the top-level Folder.

Object identity

Name

(mandatory)

Enter a name, or part of a name, to use as search criteria. Use wildcard characters (* and ?) to restrict the search. For example, if you enter Paris* in this field, the search will return all objects whose name includes the characters Paris, such as:

  • Paris1
  • Paris2
  • Paris Center
  • Paris Suburbs

By default, this field contains the asterisk (*) character. If you do not modify this value, the search function accepts all object names.

Label

Enter a label, or part of a label. This label corresponds to the Label field on the object properties General tab. Use wildcard characters (* and ?) to restrict the search.

By default, this field contains the asterisk (*) character. If you do not modify this value, the search function accepts allLabel field values.

Case-sensitive

Check this option to make the search on the Name and Label fields case-sensitive.

Infrastructure

Check this option and select an Environment from the drop-down list to search one Environment in particular.

Status

Optionally, check the Status option to activate the status-related criteria. Select one of the following radio buttons and then specify the corresponding life cycle status from the drop-down list:

  • Equals
  • At least
  • At most

For example, if you select Equals and the status Checked from the drop-down list, the search will only return objects with this status. If you select At least with the status Checked, the search will return objects with the status Checked, ToBeCommittedAxway Transfer CFT onlyand Committed.

Date

Check this option to restrict the search to objects created or modified within the date range that you specify.

Then select one of the following options to restrict the search to the creation date or modification date:

  • Created
  • Modified

between

Use the between ... and fields to specify the start date and end date. The search will only return objects that were created or modified within this date range.

and

by User

To restrict the search to objects defined by a specific user, check the by user option and then select a User from the drop-down list.

Managing search criteria

Creating search filters

You can define and save your own object search criteria. These criteria are not visible to other users.

To define search criteria:

  1. Check the Manage Filters checkbox.
  2. Enter a name for the search filter.
  3. Check/uncheck the objects to create the filter and click Save.
  4. The filter is added to your list of available filters.

Applying a custom filter

  1. From the drop-down menu in the Load field, select a filter and click Load.
  2. Click Find to execute your filtered search.

You can modify your custom searches at anytime by loading them, checking/unchecking new objects and saving your changes.

To delete a search, load it and click Delete.

Completing the Advanced tab

Use the Advanced tab to refine the search based on specific user attributes. This tab typically displays two fields that relate to object user attributes:

You can specify criteria for one or both of these fields.

Note: For certain objects, such as Tables, this tab displays additional specific fields.

To complete the Advanced tab:

  1. Enter the name of the attribute in the Attribute name. You can use wildcard characters (? and *) in this field.
  2. Enter the value of the attribute in the Attribute value field.

The search returns all objects with attributes that correspond to the specified criteria.
