How to Change the Polling Interval for DAS Updates.

How to Change the Polling Interval for DAS Updates.

Summary:

By default, the EMF Download Service attempts to download a new DAS filter data file every hour (this download was handled by a special DAS Update Service prior to EMF 6.0 - see related article EMF 6.0 upgrade fails to remove old DAS Update Service on the right).

This default one hour interval can be changed.

Details:

Prior to DAS 1.0 patch 2 the default download interval was once per day, at the same time DAS was originally installed.

The download interleaves with normal mail flow, and only takes a few minutes.

Updates to the filter data are posted to the FTP site by the Tumbleweed Message Protection Lab (MPL) several times per day.

Resolution:

If you wish to force a download, you can restart the Download Service.

Alternately, the steps below can be used to change the polling interval, although this should not normally be necessary...

In EMF 5.6 and later:

  • From webadmin open Set Up > Configuration Editor
  • Select Table Name DownloadSvcConfigValues
  • Enter Key Name 'Anti-Spam Check Interval Seconds' and click Find
  • Enter the desired number of seconds in Integer Value
  • Click Update
  • If prompted, restart the Download Service

Previous to EMF 5.6:

  • Open SQL Enterprise Manager
  • Open EMFMail (MMSMail)
  • Open Tables
  • Right-click the DownloadSvcConfigValues table, and return all rows
  • Find the row in the DownloadSvcConfigValues table where keyName = 'Anti-Spam Check Interval Seconds'
  • Set the intValue column in this row to the number of seconds to wait between checking the FTP server for updates
  • Update the lastUpdate column in this row to the current date and time; the approximate current date and time can be entered, as long as it's later than what was in the field
  • Close the table view to commit changes
  • Restart the Download Service
