Manual DAS filter update
Manual DAS filter update
Summary:
The procedure in this article can be used to update a DAS filter manually, using a local FTP server.
Detailed Information:
The EMF Download Service (Dynamic Anti-Spam Update Service in EMF 5.x) uses an FTP connection to download.tumbleweed.com to download the newest DAS filter files. After this file is downloaded, the Download Service also unpacks the file and loads it into the EMFMail database. In the procedure below, one way to acquire the new DAS filter file is to manually download it from download.tumbleweed.com, using command-line or browser FTP; then, have EMF load the filter from a local FTP server.
Note for EMF 5.x only: The procedure below will also change the pointer for the anti-virus DAT file downloads, but if DAS filter downloads aren't working, chances are that the virus downloads are also not working. For this reason, you may want to add the newest Virus DAT file from download.tumbleweed.com to the antivirus directory created in step 3.
Note for EMF 6.x and later: EMF 6.x was changed to download virus updates directly from McAfee (ftp.nai.com), and is not affected by step 3 below. Also, the EMF 6.x webadmin Configuration Editor can be used to update the value(s) in the EMFMail database.
Resolution:
To load a DAS filter into the database manually, you must follow these steps:
1. Configure a server on your network to serve as an FTP server.
2. Make one folder on the FTP server called antispam.
3. Make a second folder on the FTP server called antivirus.
4. Acquire the latest DAS filter.
5. Place the newest DAS filter file in the antispam directory.
In EMF 5.x:
6. Open the SQL Enterprise Manager.
7. Navigate to the MMSMail database.
8. Open Tables.
9. Right click on the DownloadSvcConfigValues table, select Open, Return all rows.
10. Alter the table entry entitled FTP Server, replacing download.tumbleweed.com with the IP address or fully-qualified domain name of your FTP server.
11. Close the Table.
12. Close Enterprise Manager.
In EMF 6.x and later:
6. Open EMF webadmin > Set Up > Configuration Editor.
7. Select the DownloadSvcConfigValues table.
8. Enter Key Name "Anti-Spam FTP Server".
9. Click Find to verify the ansi value is "download.tumbleweed.com".
10. Change the ansi value "download.tumbleweed.com" to the fully-qualified domain name of your FTP server.
11. Click Update.
12. Exit the Configuration Editor.
Finally restart the MSSQLSERVER Service. This will restart all EMF services. When the 5.x DAS Update Service or 6.x Download Service restarts, it will download the filter from your FTP server.
