Shutting down current versions of ST and VA on new Dell appliances

Problem

For Secure Transport (ST) and Validation Authority (VA) on Dell appliances, the user is unable to perform a graceful shutdown by pressing and releasing momentarily the power button.

Solution

As of the time of writing (April 2007) customers running ST or VA appliances are encouraged to log on and initiate a graceful shutdown through an OS command rather than through the power button.
Tumbleweed plans to implement graceful shutdown through the power button in future versions of ST and VA.
