15104: Secure Messenger Service Failed to Start
Problem
-- Secure Messenger service does not start
-- Messages building up in the Secure Messenger queue
-- The following errors are logged in the Windows Application and EMF log:
15104: Secure Messenger Service Failed to Start
15901: Failed to start: SslListener0@0.0.0.0:443
Resolution
The error above means that there is another process using the Secure Messenger port: 443. The following netstat command can be executed to get more information on the process PID:
netstat -ano | find "443"
1. A good candidate is the IIS server. It may be that IIS > Default Web Site properties > Web Site tab > SSL port is set to 443.
In this case, the SSL port on the IIS has to be changed to different port, like 8443.
*Please note that the Secure Messenger site does not reside on the IIS server. Secure Messenger is running its own Web server called Jetty.
2. Another possible service can be the "Windows Remote Management (WS-Management)"- commonly used with Dell hardware. The service has to be either reconfigured to use different port or stopped.
3. Another possible workaround of the port conflict is to reconfigure Secure messenger to listen on different port than the default.
