CommAdapter

A CommAdapter defines the middleware layer between business applications and the communication network. Typically, the role of the CommAdapter is to:

• retrieve data from the local information system
• convert this data to a message format (for MQSeries, JMS, SOAP...)
• transmit these messages to another adapter in a remote information system

The CommAdapter is a sub-object of theAxway Server , Partner and Application objects.

A CommAdapter always depends on a specific network type (CommNetwork) and defines the protocol to use for communication on that network. Where the CommNetwork establishes the physical connection between two software applications, the CommAdapter defines how those applications communicate:

• the language, or protocol, used to communicate: for example, HTTP, PeSIT, ETEBAC, FTP
• the connection parameters: for example, the protocol identifier, the SAP (Service Access Point), compression and connection restart options
