The HostGroup is an organizational object that you can use to group a set of Host objects. A HostGroup typically represents a geographical site, such as France or Paris. Alternatively, it can have a logical name that corresponds to a functional group, such as Accounting.
Each HostGroup can group sub-HostGroups. For example, the HostGroup Europe could contain the sub-HostGroups UK, France and Italy. The UK HostGroup could contain the HostGroups London and Edinburgh. Each HostGroup at the lowest level in the tree structure groups a set of Hosts where the software products are located.
The HostGroup Atlas tab provides a graphical display of the sub-HostGroups and Hosts that belong to this HostGroup. When you add a sub-HostGroup or Host to the HostGroup in the left pane, the new object is automatically displayed on the Atlas tab.
A predefined root HostGroup is supplied with the software. The root HostGroup contains all other HostGroups and Hosts defined in Composer. Although you can modify this object, you cannot delete it.
You can perform all basic operations on HostGroup objects.
This object does not follow the standard object life cycle. The HostGroup is an organizational object that does not have an object status.
