EMF SMTP Relay Service does not start after uninstalling components

EMF SMTP Relay Service does not start after uninstalling components

Applies to

EMF 6.1

Bug number

#23377

Problem

After uninstalling the Spam Analysys Engine (SAE) or Secure Redirect components from a machine that also hosts the SMTP Relay, the EMF SMTP Relay Service cannot start.

The following setups have been identified to have this issue:

  1. SAE and SMTP Relay installed, Secure Redirect not installed. Removing SAE breaks the SMTP Relay
  2. Secure Redirect and SMTP Relay installed, SAE not installed. Removing Secure Redirect breaks the SMTP Relay

The installer is not aware of the dependency of the Relay Service on two dynamic libraries: <INSTALLDIR>\libeay32.dll and <INSTALLDIR>\ssleay32.dll. Uninstalling the SAE or Secure Redirect components removes the above libraries, leaving the EMF SMTP Relay Service in a broken state.

Solution

Create backup copies of libeay32.dll and ssleay32.dll before uninstalling SAE or Secure Redirect.

In case you have already uninstalled SAE or Secure Redirect and have no backup copies, you can get them from various sources, for example here:

http://www.dll-files.com/

Once you obtain libeay32.dll and ssleay32.dll, place them in the EMF installation directory and start the EMF SMTP Relay Service.
