ERROR 552

 ERROR 552
This article was previously published as ID#83489

Summary:
Error 552: Requested mail action aborted: exceeded storage allocation.

Symptom:
User sending email at a certain size with or without attachments receives this error.

Detailed Information:
Error 552 is returned at the SMTP level.

MMS has two ways of controlling what message sizes can be passed through the server:

1) RELAY: Set Up > Relays: Allows LAN Administrators to control the band-width with respect to email message sizes that pass through the server at the SMTP Level.

2) POLICIES: Policies with size limitations can control email messages sizes with respect to the domain and/or user. You can also reject, quarantine, or defer messages based on criteria setup by your company.

Resolution:
Increase the Message Size Limit on the Set Up > Relays, Other Limits section.

Please consider your Server Hardware, Network Topology, Bandwidth, User Requirements & Company Policies before adjusting this setting. This option has a direct impact on your email processing and delivery along with other network traffic.

Tumbleweed recommends that LAN & Email Administrators fully analyze their internal and external connections and traffic to prevent network bottlenecks. Failure do so can adversely affect internal and external e-mail systems.
