KB Article #177079
Appliance backup incomplete and does not report errors
Problem
The backup script used on an appliance either from the command line or the Webmin interface (port 10000) doesn't report errors to the user. This might be in the case where there is not enough space on the system to complete the backup which leave a partial backup.
One the Oracle Linux Appliance a command line backup is taken from running the command.
/usr/local/bin/system-backup.sh
In Webmin a system backup is taken from the selection of "Filesystem Backup" and the "Scheduled Backup" which appears as /opt/backups/sysbackup
Resolution
For the Oracle Linux Appliance the issue has been fixed by upgrading to the latest backup package. The fix version is 7.3.1-3.
The online Appliance can upgrade with
yum install appliance-system-backup
otherwise the update can be manually applied by downloading the package from

rpm -Uvh appliance-system-backup-7.3.1-3.x86_64.rpm
