Extending of the root partition on a Virtual Machine
Problem
Sometimes the space allocated for the root partition during the installation could be insufficient. In this case we could increase its size by following the procedure below.
Resolution
Before proceeding with the execution of the below procedure note that:
- This procedure is not officially tested and supported by Axway.
- In order to resize the root partition, booting from an external media will be required. A 3rd party software like the GParted Live used in this example will be needed in order to boot from a Live ISO, and resize the partition.
- Make sure that there is a backup of the VM.
GParted Live CD could be found on the following 3rd party link: http://gparted.org/livecd.php
Extend the root partition with the below steps:
- Make a snapshot of the virtual machine
- Increase the size of the virtual hard drive
- Boot the VM from the GParted Live ISO
- Extend the size of the Extended partition using GParted
- Extend the size of the root partition using GParted
- Reboot
Now the additional space should be available in the root partition.
