How to fix Help Contents in BOM 2.6.1 SP7
Problem
In BOM 2.6.1 SP7, Help Contents page from Help menu can not be accessed anymore. This happens because BOM 2.6.1 SP7 uses Open JDK 8 and the org.apache.jasper.glassfish
bundle does not allow Java 8 to run JSPs compiled with JDT 3.7.1. This
is why an error is received when opening Help Contents.
Resolution
A possible workaround (another way of accessing the Help Contents) is as follows:
- choose Help menu, Dynamic Help option,
- in the newly opened window choose the Contents link (left - top) and the same Help contents should be shown
For a permanent solution, perform the next procedure:
1. Extract the attached helppatch.zip archive to a folder on the BOM machine.
2. In BOM, go to Help -> Install New Software
3. Click the “Add…” button
4. In the new window click the “Local…” button
5. Select the location where you have extracted the help patch
6. Fill in the field for “Name” (for example type: help-patch)
7. Click “OK”
8. Uncheck the second checkbox “Group items by category” and then select the 2 patches that appear
9. Click “Next >” and a window with Install Details will appear
10. Click “Next >”
11. Select “I accept the terms of the license agreement” and click “Finish”
12. Click OK when the Security Warning appears
13. Restart BOM by clicking “Yes”
14. After restart, exit BOM
15. Go to the BOM installation folder in BOM/bin/plugins and you should see 2 org.apache.jasper.glassfish jars
16. Make sure BOM application is closed and then delete file apache.jasper.glassfish_2.2.2.v201205150955.jar
17. After deleting the jar, open BOM application and see that Help Contents is now working
