Axway Composer > Composer administration > Managing Users and Groups > Creating Users or Groups

Creating Users or Groups

The Group and User objects have identical tabs and fields. The procedure below provides instructions for creating either object.

Before you create a User or Group, you must define at least one Folder for that User or Group.

  1. In the Administration workbench, select File > New > User rights > User/Group.
  2. Complete the General tab.

Optionally, enter a free-text description of up to 50 alphanumeric characters.

  3. Use the Add > and <Remove buttons in the Groups tab to associate the Useror Group with one or more Groups. If you have not defined a Group object yet, the left pane is empty.
  4. Use the Add > and <Remove buttons in the Operation Rights tab to authorize the Useror Group to perform operations for each object type, such as Create, Modify, Send to Server.

    • The operations available depend on the Enablers installed. Not all operations are available for all objects. You cannot, for example, send a Host object to Server.
    • Use the Reverse Label button to reverse the object name and the operation. For example, to display Host: Create as Create: Host. If you want to authorize operations of the same type on more than one object, display the operation first, followed by the object name. If you want to authorize multiple operations on the same object type, display the object name first.
    • Certain common operations, such as the Check operation, are always associated with another operation. For example, if you have the right to create or modify an object, you also have the right to check it:

  5. Use the Object Rights tab to restrict user or group access to specific instances of Folders, Environments or Resource tags.Closed
    View details

    To assign object rights:

    1. Click Add icon on the vertical toolbar to add a line to the table.
    2. Click the Type field and select an object type from the drop-down list. At a minimum, this list displays Folder and Environment.
    3. To define access to a single specific object instance, enter the complete name of the object instance in the Value field. To assign access to multiple object instances, you can use the asterisk (*) as a wildcard character to represent one or more characters.
    4. If required, select the checkbox in the Write mode column to assign write rights for the user.

Note: If you do not specify a value for an object type, the user has access to all objects of this type.

It is recommended that you restrict rights to Axway Servers. Typically, each Composer Entity comprises multiple Axway Servers where you send objects for execution. If you do not restrict access rights to specific Axway Servers, users with the required access rights would be able to send objects to Server on any definedAxway Server in the Entity.

  6. Use the Add > and <Remove buttons in the Workbenches tab to determine which workbenches the Useror Group can access on Composer startup. Rights on objects also depend on the workbench access, for example, if you only assign access to the Administration workbench, the Useror Group only has access to objects in this workbench, regardless of the any other workbench object rights defined in step 5.

After you create a User, the User can log in using the defined name and password.

After you create a Group, you can associate Users or Groups with this Group.
