Increase retention for Message Tracking logs
Problem
Is there a way to increase the number of days for which Message Tracking logs are stored on MailGate appliances?
Resolution
The Message Archive period defined under Admin UI -> Administration -> Message Archiving applies to both:
- Email processing events, available under Admin UI -> Monitor -> Message Tracking
- Email content stored locally on the filesystem
Please note that longer retention periods can substantially increase the quantity of mail stored on the system, and as a result, have impact on MailGate throughput and reporting performance.
For capacity planning purposes, 7 days retention period is set by default. A significantly higher retention period should indicate the need for increased processing capacity (i.e. scale up horizontally), due to the additional reporting overhead and storage consumption.
If MailGate detects that it is low on storage space, it will delete the oldest stored email messages, even if their age is within the retention period specified by this setting. The deletion stops once MailGate has reached a safe storage level, that is, 80% of the available appliance's disk space.
