How to turn on logging for the File Transfer Direct Outlook Plugin

Summary

The FTDirect plugin for Outlook does not write log data by default.  This is perfect most of the time when things are running smootly, but when a problem occurs, turning on logging may be necessary to get more detail on the source of the problem.

Details

1.  In Regedit, navigate to:  HKLM/Software/Axway/FileTransferDirect/Settings
change the value of  "traceLog" from 0 to 1
(If you are not familiar with using Regedit to edit your registry, please have your IT team or tech support assist with this step.)

2.  Close Outlook

3.  Run the following program to shut down FTDirect:  C:\Program Files\Axway\File Transfer Direct 1.5\ShutdownFTDirect.exe
(you can do this from the Windows Start menu by choosing Run and entering the path and program name above, or you can use Explorer to browse to the C:\Program Files\Axway\File Transfer Direct 1.5\ directory and double clicking on the ShutdownFTDirect.exe program.)

4.  Run the following to restart FTDirect:  C:\Program Files\Axway\File Transfer Direct 1.5\FTDirect.exe

5.  Re-open Outlook and resume using it as before.  When you next encounter the problem you're trying to diagnose, you can find the log files in
C:\Documents and Settings\USER\Application Data\axway\SecureClient\log  (where USER is the user currently logged into Windows)
