Cannot display messages in an MMS queue.

Cannot display messages in an MMS queue.
This article was previously published as ID#26928

Summary:
Occasionally, none of the messages in one or more of the MMS message queues (eg, Quarantine, Retry, etc.) will be visible. This technote discusses solutions to this situation.

Symptom:
None of the messages in one or more of the MMS message queues (eg, Quarantine, Retry, etc.) are visible. The display window for the queue in the MMS config tool will be blank, even though the .hed/.msg files in the queue are visible in the Windows Explorer.

Detailed Information:
A few quick checks to make are:

- Are you trying to view the queue(s) using any filter(s)?
- Is your config tool pointing at the correct MsgStore directory (pointer is in MMS SMTP relay > Properties > General tab)?

Barring these checks, this situation usually occurs because the NT disk directory structure of the MMS MsgStore has become corrupted.

Resolution:
A solution that works in the corruption case is to:

- Stop the MMS relay service
- Rename the MsgStore directory to MsgStore.old
- Restart the relay (this will cause a new MsgStore directory structure to be created)

Then, all of the .msg files in the MsgStore.old directory structure should be "cannon'd" back through MMS. This means you should use our utility named "cannon.exe" to resend the messages back through MMS as new messages. After this is done successfully, the MsgStore.old structure can be deleted.

Additional Info:
Please see the technote entitled "Cannon Utility" in our web knowledge base for further details on using cannon.

If the approaches above do not resolve the situation, please contact Tumbleweed Technical Support.
